BUSINESSADVANCED LEVEL FOR CURRENT YEAR 13CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL 9707Introduction Business Studies involves attempting to understand and explain ways in which businesses operate and behave in relation to their environment by adopting a scientific method of enquiry. It is much less theoretical than Economics since its focus is far narrower and its outlook practical.
ProgressionYou will be provided with the opportunity to develop a wide range of business related knowledge and skills. Your studies will cover a wide range of topics relating to business such as the law, accounting, marketing, and others which enable you to ‘taste’ vocational areas that you may wish to pursue after A level. AimsThe syllabus aims are to ensure students at Greensteds: - To understand and appreciate the nature and scope of business, and its role in society.
- To develop critical understanding of organisations, the markets they serve and the process of adding value.
This should involve consideration of the internal workings and management of organisations and, in particular, the process of decision-making in a dynamic external environment.
- To be aware that business behaviour can be studied from a range of stakeholders including customer, manager, creditor, owner/shareholder and employee.
- To be aware of the economic, environmental, ethical, governmental, legal, social and technological issues associated with business activity.
- To develop skills in:
• decision-making and problem solving in the light of evaluation; • the quantification and management of information, where appropriate; • effective communication

(ii) Paper 2 - Candidates will be presented with a business situation or problem, and required to answer questions arising from it. This is called Data response. Encourage your child to watch the news (BBC world/ CNN) and spend some time reading local and international newspapers. 2. Take your child into your own workplace and discuss how things operate, share the experiences of your own job/ career with your child. It will turn the theory into reality for them. 3. There is a direct correlation between results and work experience. Encourage your child to spend some of their holiday time to do work experience. 4. Parents of day students needs to be actively involved with their childs revision and homework on a daily bases. Parents of boarders, do not worry we will take care of it in their dorms. ResourcesWe have a wide range of resources for students to use from state of the art ICT facilities, to periodicals and newspapers. We have access to DVD/VC players. From time to time students will be asked to attend Department Trips to local business premises. These trips will be communicated to the students well in advance of their scheduled dates.
