Wildlife ClubWildlife Club is open to students from Year 7 to Year 13. The club is a registered Wildlife Club of Kenya (WCK). As such, there are a few topics that we must cover. The aim this year is to work on sustainable development, tree planting and wildlife monitoring. The activities that the club have been involved in are: creating bird tables and boxes around school, tree planting, mapping the tree species and numbers around campus and establishing a bird list for the school. One-off events are being organised such as litter picking in SoySambu on 17th March, Game census in Nakuru NP (date to be confirmed by KWS) and visits to the park (2 visits took place in Term 1 and more are planned for Term 3, with a key objective clearly set before we go, for example, photography; species census; follow an animal...). As the group is very big this term, it has been divided into 3 sub-groups and each sub-group works on a 3 week cycle with a different teacher. Currently, Mr Morgan is looking at tree mapping/census; Mr Maloba is conducting activities linked to sustainable development and bird boxes; Mr Germain is working on a game census and bird list. |
