Drama at GreenstedsDrama is enjoyed by students in KS3, 4 and 5 at Greensteds and plans are that the department will continue to grow. In lessons we encourage the students to share their work on a regular basis and they are also encouraged to create work independently. As part of their coursework students in year 10 and 12 are required to showcase their work. After working hard to write, devise, develop and rehearse such fantastic material this is a great opportunity for everybody to recognise the talent that we have at Greensteds. The Drama Department is very proud of their successful exam results and will continue to produce very creative and exciting productions. Our main objective is to stimulate the enjoyment of drama; whilst doing so we hope to develop our pupils' abilities in a multitude of ways
How do students study Drama at Greensteds? At KS3 all students have a scheduled lesson of Drama in which they engage in all sorts of communication GCSE & A level Drama complements a range of subjects and is useful in building confidence and improving presentation skills in a range of careers Beyond the classroomThis past year in the Performing Arts department, there have been many exciting, adventurous and entertaining events that have happened outside of curriculum time. A great many talented, creative and dedicated students have worked incredibly hard to produce performances of an exceptionally high standard. Our first project was to create a variety show where students and staff alike, could showcase the huge array of talent that we have in school.
The spring term saw us embark on a project of mammoth proportions when we endeavoured to bring a flavour of the West End to Nakuru. Around sixty students were involved in the performance of the musical Bugsy Malone. The students sang, danced and acted their way through a terrific production that culminated in a huge onstage water fight and demonstrated to the enthusiastic audience just how amazing the students are at Greensteds. We decided to introduce some Shakespeare in the final term here. For any students this is a challenge but for many students here who do not have English as their first language it was a huge achievement. Students from years seven to ten performed an abridged version of Midsummer Nights Dream in the outdoor amphitheatre. The audience then walked up to the campsite for hot chocolate and biscuits before they were presented with an abridged version of Romeo and Juliet by year ten Drama students. Again a fantastic evening that was the finale to a great year. We have big plans for the coming year. Again we have a variety to show in the first half term that I am sure will be even more entertaining that the last. Year 7 and 8 will then be busy rehearsing for their play. After half term we will be auditioning for our whole school musical which will be performed in February and we have ambitious plans for the final term as Greensteds will open its gates to Carnival!

games, improvisations and drama techniques. At KS4 & 5 those who opt for the subject at exam level will pursue the subject in more depth: they will study specific dramatists, practitioners and plays. Nevertheless the courses are intensely practical and draw on a number of personal resources: the abilities to collaborate, respond, empathise, and innovate being just a few. Performance is at the heart of all work.
