LAWA Level Law has been an option at Greensteds for the last four years. It is a demanding course, which is offered at AS and A2 Level over two years. Law presents students with a refreshing choice at A Level and enables them to develop key skills for further study in law, business, history and political sciences. AS and A2 Law provides students with an insight into the main principles of the English Legal System, which are frequently replicated in other international legal systems. It is undoubtedly of use for those who wish to go on to study law at university. The subject is now under a new Head of Department, who has academic and practical legal qualifications as well as experience in legal practice and teaching A Level Law and ILEX in England. The approach taken to teaching A Level Law is to make it as practically based as possible and encourage active learning. This approach has lead to the subject proving very popular. A Law Society has been started this year, which enables law and non law students to discuss current legal points and also to take part in mooting competitions (mock trials). \This helps to ignite students’ passion for the subject and is valuable experience for all, as well as proving to be enjoyable. Syllabus Content At AS level the study focuses on 3 general topics: 1. Structure and operation of the English Legal System 2. Sources of law 3. Machinery of justice
At A2 level students begin an in depth study of 2 major law topics: 1. Law of Contract |
