Welcome to the Psychology DepartmentThe field of Psychology is undergoing a notable revolution and as a result of these major advances, it is a very interesting subject to study. Here at Greensteds, we strive to give our students an opportunity to systematically explore the complexity of human behaviour because we appreciate the enormous contribution of Psychology to our knowledge about why people are the way they are, why they think and act the way they do, and how they can cope more effectively with their lives. We are enthusiastic about its potential to improve our lives.Psychology is a 2 year course taught at AS and A2 Level. At AS Level, the syllabus focuses on 20 Case Studies where students are given grounding in Psychology covering basic terms, concepts and approaches. At A2 Level, students specialize in 2 specific areas of Psychology namely Health Psychology and Abnormality. Over the past 4 years of Teaching Psychology at A Level we have achieved a 95% pass rate and our students have benefited so much from the course giving them a solid foundation for University.The syllabus is designed to interest students in Psychology and to develop their skills in evaluation, analysis, application, knowledge, understanding and methodological analysis. SYLLABUS OVERVIEWIn the AS Course the Core Studies have been selected to reflect five core areas of Psychology. The studies are arranged under the headings of: Cognitive Psychology Social Psychology Physiological Psychology Developmental Psychology The Psychology of Individual Differences. There will be four studies in each section and they are listed in the Subject Content (below). These studies will be replaced periodically to maintain a freshness of material and approach. The syllabus document will indicate when a change has occurred. In the A2 Course the syllabus is designed to increase the specialism of study yet retain a breadth of coverage. Over the past few years, a number of applied areas have developed in psychology that have sought to integrate the knowledge derived from a variety of psychological sources and apply it to specific problems. The syllabus takes this approach and encourages the candidate to look at how psychological theory has been applied. This involves the candidate in integrating the various areas of the subject, and seeing the connections and contrasts between them. How Will I Be Examined?At AS Level you will be expected to sit two examination papers (Paper 1 and 2) and at A2 Level you will be expected to sit one examination paper (Paper 3).
