Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is provided for within a tutor group system. Each student is part of a tutor group with students from the same year group. Students have contact with their tutor each day and these members of staff are often the first point of call for students should they need extra support and guidance. A Pastoral Head leads each tutor team and oversees the care of students in each Key Stage:

Mrs. Werugia – Key Stage 3 – Years 7 – 9

Mr. Nick Martin – Key Stage 4 – Years 10 / 11

Mr. Nikola Joseph Wamukoya – Sixth Form – Years 12 / 13

PHSE (Personal Social and Health Education) is also an integral part of the curriculum and an important part the Pastoral system at Greensteds.

Curriculum - The whole-person approach

The school’s curriculum contributes to the development of each pupil’s sense of identity through knowledge and understanding of the moral, social, cultural and spiritual heritages of our diverse society and of the local, national and global dimensions of their lives. It encourages pupils to appreciate human aspirations and achievements and prompts personal responses and interactions.

In order to help all pupils reach their full potential our teaching aims to be pupil centered taking into account our student’s varied learning styles, abilities and needs. We aim to use a wide range of resources in our teaching and all academic departments run at least two subject ‘Clinics’ throughout the week so that pupils can be given additional help and support. Many students take advantage of these Clinics and we know this opportunity for individual attention is of great benefit.

So what’s involved academically?

Using the British Curriculum as its framework, the secondary school provides for all Key Stage 3 (year 7-9), 4 (years 10 and 11 covering iGCSEs) and 5 (years 12 and 13 covering AS and A2 levels and supporting entry into worldwide universities) requirements.

  • Key Stage 3 sees a broad spectrum of subjects reflecting those currently offered in the UK.
  • Key Stage 4 - In year 10 students are then required to continue with two compulsory subjects, plus up to 7 chosen from options. These are studied for 2 years culminating in iGCSE examinations at the end of year 11.
  • For Key Stage 5 students study four subjects of their choice in year 12 and generally drop one as they progress into A2 in year 13. These are required qualifications for university entrance in the UK and other overseas countries.

This is further supported by a broad curriculum of extra-curricular creative, cultural, sporting and community based activities.

NOTE: The school is a recognised centre for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and offers courses through the CIE and Edexcel education boards.
