Examination Results May/June 2011

This year we have continued to have an overall impressive set of results with students and staff maintaining standards of excellence. It is important to note that we are not academically selective when admitting students to courses, believing that it is right to give them every opportunity and support to achieve their full potential.

At IGCSE level we have yet again achieved 100% pass rate A to G, however as we all know the recognized pass is a C grade or better. As you can see from our data we have an overall 81% A to C. Some subjects were significantly above this notably Mathematics with 90% and Geography with 91%. Special Mention goes to our top student Manon Mispiratceguy with all As of which 5 were A*. She also achieved an A* in French and has been nominated for an Edexcel high achievers award in this subject.

At A level all our students continued to reach their potential in their chosen areas of study. Our top student this year was Vera Ngosi with 3 A*. She too has been nominated for a high achievers award in Physics by Edexcel. The following subjects achieved 100% A to E Art, Biology, Economics, Music. Thinking Skills, Music Technology, ICT and Physics. The overall pass rate of 78% was in line with the 2010 AS result as can be seen from below thus our students were performing to expectations. The same pattern is also observed with the 2011 AS result compared to 2010 IGCSE.

We always carefully analyze our results and use the data to implement changes and direct future curriculum strategy where necessary. Our broad analysis since 2002 is shown below. Examination Results May/June 2010

Overall the results are very good and continue to indicate the standards of excellence that we set are being achieved by most of the students. With the majority reaching their full potential at all levels of matriculation.

At A level we had 93% A* to E. There were 4 students gaining A*  Wasim Aslam and Mirembi Mussi each gained one in Geography, with Jesse Mutakha and Karishma Amlani each being awarded the top grade in Biology and Mathematics respectively. Credit to them and their teachers. 14 out of the 20 subjects sat obtained 100% pass rate.

The AS results are pleasing with regard to the % A and A + B, both on the upward trend. For the majority of our students their AS grades will ensure that they will be able to access the courses of their choice at universities around the world when they start applying from this month onwards. A few have had a wake up call and may need to rethink their options. However they still have an opportunity to move their grades in the desired direction with a re sit in either November 2010 or January 2011.

Our pass rate at IGCSE level is 100% according to the exam boards who consider A* to G as such and thus print the appropriate grade on the certificate However we know that it is only a grade of A* to C which is meaningful for continuation beyond KS4 into the sixth form and A levels. As such, virtually all our students obtained C or better to qualify them to start the AS level courses of their choice. To the universities IGCSE grades are of relatively no importance, with the exception of Mathematics and English. Even these are becoming increasingly redundant as new qualifications in these disciplines come on to the market and are offered by us to compliment the existing ones.

Mr. M. Foster

Director of Studies

                                           Exam Success in 2009!

We can be justly proud of our Students performance in this year’s IGCSE and A level examinations. Many subjects achieved a 100% pass rate. Our star students were Richard Waitumbi at A level with 4 A grades and Vera Ngosi at IGCSE with 8 straight As of which 7 were A*s. At IGCSE level our overall pass rate was 99% with 73% of our candidates scoring A to C. At AS level the 83% of our candidates obtained grades from A to E with 88% achieving the same at A level. As always we carefully analyse our results and make changes where we see the need. It should be borne in mind that we are not selective on admission to the school and aim to get the best out of each individual student even if they do not have the potential to reach a C or E grade at IGCSE or A level respectively.

                                         Brilliance in Kenya 2008

Last year a number of our Students achieved Best in Kenya Awards from Cambridge for their exam scores in A level and IGCSE examinations, where they achieved the highest marks out of all the candidates sitting those papers in Kenya.

This year two of our students have achieved the same. Congratulations to Megha Unadkat in Biology and Akash Karia in Economics, both at A level.

Any institution would like to see 100 % in the above, but the reality dictates otherwise. This year our AS candidates were particularly affected by the disruption caused by the post election violence as the course is taught within 3 terms, thus there was little time to make up for losses in teaching and revision due to forced closure of the school.

IGCSE is not a pass or fail exam. Grades go down to G each one indicates some level attainment in the course, although not normally sufficient for university entry or continuation in the subject to A level.

Every year our staff and SMT use the results to evaluate the teaching and performance in each subject. From this we implement strategies and set targets to maximize attainment from each student in the coming academic year.
