It was fitting that as the two hundredth anniversary of Charles Dickens should be celebrated in 2012, that he should open events; on his arrival he talked a little about himself and read a section from one of his most famous books: Oliver Twist. Pupils speak outYear 11 students stepped forward to debate free speech in a lively session and Year 12 students gave their MUN (Model United Nations) speeches. One of Kenya’s premier writers, Binayvanga Wainaina gave an entertaining and provocative talk to senior pupils about Literature, life and philosophy. Most Departments were able to adapt their lessons to include book-related activities.
